We asked Dublin based Jimmy Rouge to select his favourite summer tracks and the result was a lush two-hour long mix, which will make these early spring days feel like summer already.
Words by Isabel van Zeller
Jimmy is well-known for his DJ sets in the Dublin nightlife, but he’s recently taken his musical career to new heights by founding his very own record label, Orange Tree Edits. The label has seen two EP releases so far, and both of them have already caused quite the buzz.
The first record, which contains two afro edits by Jimmy himself, sold out within 24 hours across popular record stores and received support from DJs like Hunee, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Session Victim and Peggy Gou. We talked to Jimmy Rouge to find out what he likes to get up to in the summer, and what’s next on the agenda for Orange Tree Edits.
Describe your idea of a perfect summer day.
It would involve surfing on the west coast of Ireland on one of the two days of the year that it’s hot, followed by a feed of Guinness!
What was the last song you listened to?
Harvey Sutherland – Coast 2 Coast on Clarity Recordings.
Where would you rather spend your time, in a DJ booth or in your studio? How come?
In a DJ booth because when it goes well and you make a connection, there is nothing quite like it.
Could you tell us something about the third Orange Tree Edits record that’s going to be released this summer? Can we expect even more releases this year?
Afro Edits Vol. 3 is currently being pressed. It is due out in early June and it features an edit of mine alongside one by Irish producers Mix & Fairbanks. Our 4th release is also in the pipeline and should see the light of day during the summer months.
